Oysters and Oyster Stout

Upright Brewing, one of many boutique breweries in Portland, Oregon, crafted a limited edition oyster stout, and to celebrate, numerous bars like Branch held release parties. I've been known to knock back a few picklebacks at Branch during my tenure in Portland, but I saw the oyster-themed menu as a chance to have some fun.

The oyster stout doesn't have nearly as pronounced an oyster stout as one my expect. By all accounts, it's just a very good stout, but if there's anything Ireland has in abundance, it'd be whiskey, North Atlantic oysters and stout. So the grouping of the three only seemed natural.

Whiskey and Oysters

Rather than the usual "shot of pickle juice" to chase a shot of Jameson, bar patrons did a shot of Branch's house mignonette sauce.1 I followed it up with a delicious Kumamoto oyster, and then lazily sipped on Upright's stout. All in all, a great combination.

1 Next time, we need to strain out the bits of onion, unless you like a bit of crunch with your shot.
